Why a fixed price matters for airport transfers

Heading to the airport, most passengers look at one thing only: the opening fare on the meter. Yet that number says very little about the total cost of the ride. The real difference shows up in what happens on the way.

What the meter measures — and what it doesn’t

The meter counts distance and time together. So the fare keeps running even when the car is standing still. Getting to the airport in jammed traffic costs noticeably more than the same route on an empty road at night — and there is no way for the passenger to know that when setting off.

Then there’s the terminal confusion. Being dropped at the wrong terminal and doubling back, circling the car park, or missing the departures level and looping around via arrivals: it all adds up on the meter.

What does a fixed price solve?

Quoting the price upfront means shifting the risk from passenger to driver. If we get stuck in traffic, that’s our problem, not yours. That’s why we plan the route and the timing in advance.

• Departure timed to your flight. Waiting two hours at the airport is bad; so is missing the gate. We plan backwards from your flight time.
• Terminal info in advance. Which terminal, domestic or international — we ask on the phone.
• No waiting fee for delays. On pickups we track the flight; if the plane is late, no extra charge appears.
• No night surcharge. A 3 a.m. departure costs the daytime price.

What to check when booking

Whichever taxi you take, asking these three questions eliminates most of the surprise at the end of the ride:

• Is the price fixed or on the meter?
• Are bridge and motorway tolls included?
• Is there an extra charge per bag?
